On November 27, the 3rd CSR Pioneer Forum and the 2020 Pioneer Award Ceremony was held in Beijing and hosted by the International Finance News. The forum focused on epidemic prevention and control, targeted poverty alleviation, rural revitalization and other topics, through which participants explored new ideas and new directions of CSR development. At the forum, Helenbergh was honored with the "Award for Outstanding CSR Contribution in 2020" thanks to its outstanding performance in the fields of epidemic prevention, poverty alleviation, and assistance for poverty-stricken students, among others.

Model innovation benefits rural revitalization

On November 23, Guizhou Province announced eradication of extreme poverty in the last nine poor counties, marking the delisting of all the 832 poverty-stricken counties nationwide identified by the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development. It is no doubt that this is an inspiring moment. As a responsible large enterprise, Helenbergh proactively engaged in this great battle against poverty, creating a new model of poverty alleviation empowered by the whole industrial chain, and leaving a slew of touching stories.

In the critical period of the consolidation and enhancement of poverty alleviation in Jinggangshan (cradle of the Chinese revolution) in 2018, Helenbergh signed an agreement with Jinggangshan City on paired assistance. Dongshang Township was selected as the first among peers to implement the paired assistance pilot work, where manpower and material resources are invested, a professional team are stationed, forming an industrial poverty alleviation model integrating "companies + research institutes + cooperatives + farmers". Besides, the whole industry chain is mobilized to support the sustainable development of the local traditional apiculture industry and drive the local people to become rich.

According to the "work in progress" released by the Apiculture Institute of Jiangxi Province in August 2020, the apiculture industry in Jinggangshan has developed by leaps and bounds thanks to the support from Helenbergh, Apiculture Institute of Jiangxi Province, Central-South Jiangxi Experimental Promotion Station and the local government in recent years. Data shows that 1,200 apiarists generates over 8,000 boxes, and the leading apiculture industry benefits over 140 poverty-stricken individuals from over 60 poverty-stricken households in 16 poverty-stricken villages.

Poverty alleviation through industrial and educational support

Helenbergh believes that performing real deeds for farmers to find the proper lifeline for industrial development is not only a long-term solution to improve the lives of poor people and achieve poverty from the source. At the same time, it is also an important measure to improve the literacy of the poor dropout children, help them attend school, and then to cut off the intergenerational transmission of poverty.

Over the past two decades, Helenbergh has spared no efforts to practice its corporate social responsibility by capitalizing on one of its long-term centerpiece "Helenbergh Education" to assist poor students. This project guarantees that every recipient will be funded by a fixed amount per month, and provides comprehensive assistance to poor students to attend elementary school until they finish undergraduate studies. As of the end of 2019, Helenbergh has invested more than 20 million yuan/year in education assistance, benefiting a cumulative total of over 4,000 students with excellent character and academic performance from more than 200 schools in Guangdong, Hebei, Yunnan, Sichuan, Jiangxi, Shaanxi, Hunan, Henan and other places.

In its long-term efforts to assist poor students, Helenbergh has noticed that the challenge is to reach every school-age child despite that a fixed monthly donation per person can help a child finish his or her studies. The fundamental problem is that the rural economic development lags behind. Therefore, region-wide poverty can only be addressed through industrial and educational support.

To ensure the complete and stable eradication of poverty in Jinggangshan, Helenbergh is vigorously developing and expanding the local apiculture industry. Meanwhile, it has set up a local education fund. According to the requirement of the fund, poor students will get 500 yuan per person per month. So far, the fund has assisted 109 poor students in Jinggangshan, helping them realize their dream of academic studies.

Act as a pioneer in containing COVID-19 with great efforts

Helenbergh's dedication to society is also evident in shouldering the responsibility to brave difficulties. Facing major disasters and pandemics, Helenbergh took immediate actions to support and help people in areas affected by the 2004 tsunami in Southeast Asia, the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, the 2010 Yushu earthquake in Qinghai, and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out earlier this year, Helenbergh responded quickly, dispatched work forces, and actively mobilized various resources and forces from all walks of life, with accumulated donations equivalent to nearly 10 million yuan.

On January 26, Helenbergh donated 5 million yuan to Wuhan Charity Federation to support the national efforts for containment of COVID-19 in Wuhan. After getting the knowledge that Hubei is badly in need of medical supplies, Helenbergh took immediate actions on February 5 and gathered in Wuhan more than 200,000 medical/surgical masks and 40,000 pairs of medical/surgical gloves outsourced from abroad. On February 14, Helenbergh launched the program Protect Our City and Bring Hope to Our People - Salute to Frontline Workers, and donated supplies to frontline workers including medical staff, police officers, community workers, among others in over 20 cities across China.

While actively supporting the frontline workers to fight the pandemic, the Helenbergh family also implemented supportive measures to forge a solid wall to guard against the pandemic, creating a healthy and safe living environment for the owners, and helping them to purchase daily necessities with the help of WeChat and other forms.
